PREMIERE INNS and FINE DINING

All Club Toscana trips place an emphasis on each region's historic architecture, its picturesque landscapes and pristine environment. Usually rated at four to five stars, our "Premiere" lodgings range from charming countryside villa inns to elegant village townhouses and luxuriously restored farmhouses. Surrounded by picture postcard scenery, many overlook a landscape seemingly pulled out of a Renaissance painting, a medieval piazza or a historic seaside village. Most are complimented by relaxing amenities such as a welcoming pool, in-house spa facilities, lush lawns and flower beds or manicured gardens where one can enjoy the silence and appreciate a good book or a glass of your favorite vintage.

We choose historic properties, once the homes and country lodges of European nobility, some featuring original frescoed ceilings and wooden beams, antique furniture and clay tiled floors. We choose small and intimate over large and crowded and many of our choices are members of such exclusive organizations as Relais & Chateaux, The Leading Hotels of the World and Romantik Hotels, each recognized for their excellence and authenticity by leading luxury travel publications such as Travel & Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler.

Club Toscana offers an extensively researched selection of accommodations on every trip with each one different from the other to give you a sampling of the variety of lodgings available in a trip's travel area. Below are descriptions of how we rank our Premiere trip lodging. To find a list of the hotels used on any of our trips, go to your preferred trip web page.

These very-exclusive properties usually contain only a few very distinctive suites making your stay at these guest houses more like visiting an old friend; one that just happens to have staff catering to your every whim. Owned usually by Italians that have been drawn back to the countryside after lucrative careers in the European business world, our hosts have reconnected to their roots, and it shows in their joy for a more relaxed lifestyle and their rediscovery of the great art of Italian cooking. On our web pages, you will find these lodgings referred to as Nostro Segreto, literally "Our Secret" to protect the exclusivity of these properties.

Overlooking the village piazza from your room's balcony

Townhouse Manors and Palaces - Found on trips where our evenings are spent in a town or village, these grand manors and historic homes vary from the ancient towers of San Gimignano to Renaissance palaces, once home to Italy's nobility, to 18th-century villas, built by Europe's industrial and merchant families. Every lodging has a long and distinguished history, having been used initially as family homes, then passing through the centuries as monasteries, hospitals, merchants' homes, banks, even a few uses that are now illegal. Today however, all have found their calling as historic lodgings, recommended by informed travel writers and past guests, for their history, their location and their authentic Italian hospitality.

From sandy beaches to yacht filled harbors

Seaside Resorts - The Mediterranean seaside. Its not hard to gaze out into it's azure waters and not imagine Roman ships traveling along the coast, pirate ships searching for prey and flotillas of Pisan and Geovese war ships sparing on the open sea. In the present, the seaside offers beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters and harbors filled with small fishing boats floating along side million-dollar yachts and sailboats. Found on our Cinque Terre, Amalfi, Puglia and Florence to Venice trips, our seaside lodgings take in all of this, and more. Located overlooking colorful harbors, panoramic bays and the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean, these lodgings represent the good life, La Dolce Vita. Varying from ancient castles to 18th-century villas, once the seaside vacation homes of Europe's merchant classes, these lodgings offer luxury by the sea. Outfitted with majestic pools, private beaches, immaculate gardens and an always attentive staff, you will find it hard to not want to stay forever.

Fresh air and cool running mountain streams

Mountain Chalets - Getting away from the low lands of the Italian plain and into the air conditioned valleys and hillside meadows of the Alps brings a special charm and unique architecture to these lodgings. Surrounded by thick forests and vibrant green meadows, these luxury chalets are constructed almost entirely of stone and carved wood. One night spent under a down comforter, with the sounds of a mountain stream out your window broken only by the light clanging of a cow bell in a distant meadow and you will think you are in heaven.
