Journey into the verdant Danube River valley past vineyards, orchards and flowing fields to visit Medieval abbeys and quiet villages. Enjoy this region's friendly greetings and outstanding accommodations overflowing with old world hospitality. Dine on the simple flavors of the earth transformed into fabulous dining feasts. Day 1 - Cesky Krumlov
- Meet in "Golden" Prague, the Czech Republic's capital and home to one of Eastern Europe's richest collections of Gothic, baroque, and Renaissance architecture. Private transfer to the countryside of southern Bohemia and a panoramic ride through a pastoral setting to Cesky Krumlov, Bohemia's best preserved town rich in Baroque architecture. Discover this World Heritage Site's cobble stone passageways and riverside walks. Tour Cesky Krumlov's early Gothic castle with its Baroque theater. Join the town's folk for a pint of locally brewed beer before a dinner of local specialties.
Day 2 - Cesky Budejovice
- Ride quiet little traveled side roads through quiet Bohemian villages to Holasovice, a perfectly preserved rural Baroque village and World Heritage site. Follow a riverside route to Ceske Budejovice with one the largest Medieval town squares in Europe. Tour the "Budvar" Budweiser brewery. Celebrate the Bohemian lifestyle at a outdoor restaurant where local fare and cool refreshments are met with the sounds of local musicians.
Day 3 - Zwettl
- Cycle past small farm communities to the Czech - Austrian frontier where past political intrigue is still visible. Ride into the lush Waldviertel highlands with its flowing meadows, vibrant farms and picturesque villages. Stop at a gasthaus for a schnitzel lunch and your first sips of Wachau wines.
Day 4 - Durnstein
- Ride gentle rolling emerald hills into the Danube Valley and the expansive Wachau wineyards. Tour the inspiring abbey at Gottwieg, a World Heritage Site. Arrive in Durnstein, a small romantic village located within the ruins of an ancient fortified feudal town known for its imprisonment of Richard the Lionheart. Dinner on your own this evening to commemorate this romantic corner of Austria.
Day 5 - The Danube River
- Ride paved pathways and quiet laneways along the banks of the Danube River. Visit the Melk Stift, a spectacular Baroque abbey perched on a ridge overlooking the Danube. Stop for a wine tasting of Wachau's prized vintages at a riverside town near Durnstein. Celebrate your Czech Austrian biking adventure at a final dinner of regional specialties.
Day 6 - Vienna
- Homeward bound. Bid a final farewell to the peaceful banks of the Danube River and take a private transfer to Vienna for convenient connections to the rest of Europe, or extend your stay in the City of music, cafes, waltzes, parks, pastries, and wine. As always, we would be more than pleased to help you with any of your post-trip travel planning.
